We have a small house, small rooms, small kitchen, small dining room.?

I love south western earthy nutral colors. I want to paint our one wall that has the window, fridge, counter space, oven and a bit more counter space with cabinets on that wall. A color I found is a rich brickish, brown color. The countertops have specks of this color in it. I know painting it a dark color it will make it look smaller, but the paint sample is just so wonderful. Should I go for it? What kind of color should the opposite wall be and the wall to the backyard with the arcadia door... what color would you suggest on that wall??
